Consider the broad lines of pressure side, suction side and robotic cleaners in the world that are out there; really no matter your cleaning challenge or budget, there's always one right for your pool. So let's talk about what cleaners are, how they operate and what to look for before you buy. If you have specific questions, simply give us a call and a member of our qualified staff can discuss your filtering equipment and which products are well suited for the type of pool you have.
Here are the basic types of cleaners out there right now:
- Robotic - Robotic cleaners are common and usually powered by low-voltage electricity, rather than using your pool pump or a booster pump. This is helpful and can save you money in the long run, because your pump runs less. In addition, their built-in filter further reduces use of your pool's primary filtration system which results in lowering energy costs even more. A side benefit of less run time comes by extending the life of both your pump and filter. Which in turn, increases the amount of time between filter cleanings. Typically most robotic cleaners are also convenient you just plug and play. Once in operation it migrates to each surface in every area in your pool. If you just want to hang out and work in the sun, many models have remote controls so you can steer the unit from a lounge chair for easy spot cleaning! Are you kidding me!!
- Pressure Side - Pressure side cleaners have a hose that will attach to the return (pressure side) of your circulation system. It is this side of the plumbing that returns clean, filtered water to your pool. Pressure side pool cleaners use the power of the water pressure to pick up dirt and debris and collect it in an attached bag. Many also have their own hydraulic power plant inside for additional power. Some types of pressure side automatic pool cleaners do not require a booster pump. They simply provide highly energy efficient cleaning performance.
- Suction Side - Suction side cleaners can be easily attached to one of the suction ports in your pool. The skimmer port is used; which is the plumbing part that pulls water out of the pool to be filtered. Your filtering system in your pool may have a separate vacuum port especially for a pool cleaner. In either case, With the hose attached and the filter pump running, suction is created on the underside of the cleaner. The cleaner moves around the pool while vacuuming dirt and debris through the hose and sending it to the pump strainer basket and filter. Dirt and debris are sucked up by the cleaner and then move through the hose, up past the suction port, into the pipe, and then the debris is finally trapped in the filter pump strainer basket.
